Joaquin Niemann of Chile completed a bogey-free round of 7-under 65 to win the LIV Golf Adelaide title by three shots on Sunday at the Grange Golf Club.
Abraham Ancer and Carlos Ortiz, both from Mexico, shot 71 and finished tied for second at 10 under.
“Days like today help me improve as a player. Today was a really excellent day, so I have a lot to take away and learn from it. If I could have these Sundays chasing leaders more often, it would be extremely beneficial to my game,” said Niemann, who won the Australian Open for the second time in his career in 2023.
Sam Horsfield, who began the final round tied with Ancer and Ortiz on nine under, finished equal seventh after shooting a three-over 75. Northern Ireland’s Tom McKibbin finished with a 69 to share seventh place in the group.
Ancer, a past Australian Open champion, was still able to celebrate on the Adelaide podium, as his side Fireballs won the team title by six strokes over Jon Rahm’s Legion XIII, with Torque coming third.
The Fireballs won their fifth event in club history, four of which took place on different continents. They are also the only team that has won at least one team title in each of the four LIV Golf seasons. Captain Sergio Garcia and David Puig both shot 5-under 67s, while Ancer and rookie Luis Masaveu, 22, scored 71s.
“Obviously, the last two holes were difficult to finish with bogey-bogey, giving us a chance to win the championship. It’s always difficult, but I believe it’s just preparation for the remainder of the season. I believe my game is moving in the right direction. “I like where things are going,” added Ancer, who will defend his title in the next LIV Golf tournament in Hong Kong.
