Ellyse Perry became the top run-scorer in Women’s Premier League (WPL) history on Monday with an undefeated 90-run knock for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) against UP Warriorz in the 2025 season at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Perry broke Meg Lanning’s record of 782 runs to become the tournament’s first batter to score more than 800 runs. The Australian all-rounder currently has an astounding average of over 60 and a strike rate of more than 130 in just 21 games, having scored seven fifties in the league thus far.
Lanning, who held the record before Perry’s achievement, has 782 runs in 22 matches at an average of 39.10 and a strike rate of 128.40, with seven half-centuries to her name. Perry’s steadiness and dominance at the crease, however, have propelled her to the top of the WPL’s run-scoring charts.
Her undefeated 90 from just 50 balls helped RCB reach a dominant total of 180/6 in 20 overs. She had backing from England’s Danielle Wyatt-Hodge, who scored her maiden fifty of the season with a smooth 57 off 41 deliveries. Together, the duo ensured that RCB recovered from early nerves to achieve a competitive score.
Perry’s undefeated 90 and Danielle Wyatt-Hodge’s 57 propelled Royal Challengers Bengaluru to 180/6 in 20 overs against UP Warriorz. Perry had a dominant performance, ensuring that RCB had plenty on the board despite losing wickets at regular intervals.
Perry’s batting exploits add to RCB’s legacy of generating prolific run scorers. Her achievement pales in comparison to another franchise great, Virat Kohli, who remains a men’s cricket legend with 8004 runs in the Indian Premier League.
Kohli, who has been with RCB from the IPL’s beginning, has an average of 38.66 and a strike rate of 131.97 in 252 matches, with eight centuries and 55 half-centuries.
