WPL 2025: Gujarat Giants limit UP Warriorz to 143/8, and Priya Mishra selects 3–25

In match three of the WPL 2025 at the Kotambi Stadium on Sunday, leg-spinner Priya Mishra broke the back of the UP Warriorz batting lineup and assisted Gujarat Giants in limiting them to 143/9 in their 20 overs.

The Giants made sure the Warriorz never had the stamina to post a high total by choosing to bowl first. Priya’s incredible triple strike in the middle overs prevented Deepti Sharma, who was playing her debut WPL match as UP captain and keeper Uma Chetry, from stabilizing the innings with a 51-run partnership for the third wicket.

Kiran Navgire’s three boundaries in the opening two overs gave the Warriorz a strong start to their innings. However, the Giants recovered when captain Ashleigh Gardner cheaply dismissed Vrinda Dinesh after Deandra Dottin moved in with a quicker ball to snare Kiran leg before wicket.

While Uma was skilled at finding fours by slogging, slamming the ground, and sweeping in the space between mid-wicket and long-on, Deepti was excellent at using her sweeps, heave, and punch for boundaries. In the tenth over, however, Deandra returned and got Uma to pull a short ball to mid-on.

After that, it was all Priya’s, as she used a googly for duck to trap Tahlia McGrath lbw and then the identical wrong’un to castl Grace Harris. After that, she bowled a slower delivery outside off-stump to close the middle overs. Deepti attempted to slog it, but it went off the toe-end and was collected by a diving Ashleigh at mid-off.

Alana displayed her batting prowess by heaving and cutting Deandra for six and four runs, respectively, after Ashleigh and Kashvee Gautam had castled Shweta Sehrawat and Sophie Ecclestone.

After the ball exploded through Laura Wolvaardt’s hands at long-on, Saima seized control of the final over by edging, reverse-sweeping, and slamming for her three fours off Ashleigh. Despite being run out on the final ball, Saima and Alana made sure the Warriorz scored a good amount.

In 20 overs, UP Warriorz defeated Gujarat Giants 143/9 (Deepti Sharma 39, Uma Chetry 24; Priya Mishra 3-25, Deandra Dottin 2-34).
